(MINOT, ND) – The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association has designated Trinity Health’s Family Birth Center a Blue Distinction Center for Maternity Care. The Blue Distinction program recognizes healthcare facilities that demonstrate expertise in delivering specialty care.

Blue Distinction is awarded on the basis of quality, cost effectiveness and access to care. Lorrie Antos, Trinity’s Director of Women’s and Children’s Services, says this recent recognition confirms that Trinity Health is committed to providing quality care for women and newborns.

‘Our family centered care and rooming in policies support breastfeeding and bonding between mothers and infants,’ Antos said. ‘In addition, our open access and delivery of evidence based care with transparency of data are essential elements of our philosophy and provide the basis for why we received this distinction.’

To receive Blue Distinction, each facility must have a maternity care program that meets all five of the following criteria:

ï Family centered care

ï Care processes that protect, promote and support physiologic (natural) childbirth

ï Evidence based care that is aligned with established guidelines

ï Reporting and disclosure of quality performance measures

ï Clinical drills/simulation training for high risk events

This shows that our physicians, nurses and staff are dedicated to delivering top-notch care that earns recognition as part of a national initiative.’
