(Minot, ND) Year after year, millions of people resolve to lose weight and get in shape, only to come up short of reaching their goal. According to Trinity Health Exercise Physiology Manager Russell Gust, MS, CSCS, ACSM-CET, one reason people fail is because they set unrealistic goals.
‘The majority that start a New Year’s resolution to get on a path of a lifetime of fitness jump into it with too high of expectations and set unreasonable goals,’ he says, adding, ‘The people who have the most success set short term goals and build upon them.’
For help setting goals and developing a workout regime, Gust recommends a personal training program which takes into account current fitness levels and health history. The personal trainers provide education to their clients to help them safely reach their goals, and offer encouragement and support to keep them motivated throughout the process.
For those who like to work out with others, group personal training is an option. ‘When you work out with a group, not only are you accountable to your personal trainer, but to your friends, colleagues, or whoever you are with,’ Gust says. He also points out that exercising with a group cuts the cost of a personal training program.
For the month of January, Trinity Health’s Exercise Physiology Department is offering discounts on personal training sessions at the YMCA to help people get started on their health and fitness goals. Current and new clients can take part in 12 group personal training sessions for $150 per person. Non-current clients can sign up for eight half-hour personal training sessions for $100 or 12 half-hour sessions for $130, while current clients can sign up for 16 half-hour sessions for only $236. A YMCA membership is required for all promotions.
