The best way to prevent flu is through annual vaccinations. Recommended for everyone six months of age or older, vaccines can reduce flu illnesses, doctor visits, and missed work and school, and can prevent flu-related hospitalizations.
High risk groups from the flu include people 65 years and older; people with certain chronic medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease; pregnant women; and children younger than five (especially those younger than two years old). For those 65 and older, a high dose flu vaccine is available.
