Bearded members of Ward County’s law enforcement community celebrated the successful end of No-Shave November – a unique fundraiser which gave officers a month of freedom from shaving while raising $1,500 for the Trinity CancerCare Center’s Patient Assistant Fund.
Detention Officer Brian Szablewski says more than 20 employees from the Sheriff’s Office, Juvenile Detention, and Jail Detention each paid $45 to ditch the razor for the month and support a good cause.
“It was an awesome thing to do,” said Szablewski, whose wife is a 10-year survivor from breast cancer. “There isn’t anyone who’s not touched by cancer or knows someone who’s been affected. It was a nice change for the guys, who normally go high and tight.”
Civil Process Officer Kevyn Jemtrud made sure female staff weren’t excluded. Growing a beard wasn’t an option, so she dyed her hair pink.
