Trinity Health’s Outpatient Nutrition Services will offer a grocery store tour, “The DASH Eating Plan,” Tuesday, February 11, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the original MarketPlace Foods, 1930 South Broadway. Registration is required by calling 857-5268 by February 10.
Trinity Health Outpatient Dietitian Kayla Cole, RDN, LRD, will lead the tour, offering tips that can help people on the DASH diet shop for foods that support DASH, which is an acronym for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension.
“DASH encourages people to reduce sodium in their diets and eat a variety of foods that help lower blood pressure and offer other health benefits,” Cole said. “Sticking to the DASH eating plan starts with the food you buy, which is why it’s important to know what you’re looking for and have a plan in place that will help you resist the high-fat, high-sodium foods that can knock you off your program.”
The event is part of a series of grocery store tours and cooking classes designed to promote healthy eating in 2020. Participants are instructed to meet at the east entrance of MarketPlace Foods, near the deli.
