(MINOT, ND) – Trinity Health today conducted a Code Yellow drill throughout its Minot, Williston and rural clinic facilities. A Code Yellow indicates severe weather is occurring and a tornado watch or warning has been issued for the immediate area.
Randy Schwan, Vice President of Mission Integration, said the drill coincided with Severe Weather Awareness Week in North Dakota. The National Weather Service issued a test tornado warning across the state to evaluate communication systems. Staff performed Code Yellow procedures and evacuated all patients and visitors to designated areas and sheltered in place until the code was cleared.
‘We would like to thank everyone involved during today’s tornado exercise for their patience and understanding,’ Schwan said. ‘The safety of our patients and staff is our top priority, and since severe weather can strike during the most inconvenient of times, we exercise our plan to ensure that we respond appropriately any time of day or week ñ whether we’re busy or not.’
Schwan said Trinity Health encourages the public to prepare for severe weather in the upcoming summer months. ‘We encourage everyone to develop and practice a severe weather plan for use at work or at home, so that when an emergency develops everyone knows what to do and where to go,’ he added.
