The Trinity Health Center for Diabetes Education will host a pair of informational sessions for people interested in registering for its diabetes prevention program, Weigh 2 Change.
Weigh 2 Change is a yearlong, CDC-approved program that helps people with prediabetes take control of their health through nutrition, exercise, group support, and the use of trained lifestyle coaches. Participants must be 18 years or older, be at risk for – or have – prediabetes, and be overweight. They can’t be pregnant or have diabetes.
“Diabetes can be prevented but not cured,” said Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Michelle Fundingsland, RDN, LRD. “Weigh 2 Change helps you take control of your health and achieve positive lifestyle changes with the help of a trained lifestyle coach and fun, engaging support groups.”
Potential participants are urged to attend one of two “Session Zero” meetings to learn about the program, complete a Readiness-to-Change questionnaire, and decide whether the program is right for them. Free Sessions Zero meetings are scheduled May 7 and 14 from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Trinity Health Community Conference Room at Town & Country Center.
People who decide to commit to the program and are not covered by Medicare will be charged a fee of $220 to cover educational sessions and materials for the entire year. For more information, call the Trinity Health Center for Diabetes Education at 857-5268.
