Your hearing aid undergoes quality assurance measures to confirm proper function prior to your hearing aid fitting. On the day of your hearing aid fitting, we will ensure the hearing aid fits your ear correctly and is comfortable. Your hearing aid will be programmed to meet your hearing loss prescription and verified while you are wearing it in your ear through a series of tests called “real ear measures”. Real ear measures not only verify the hearing aids are set appropriately for your hearing loss, but also ensure that soft speech is audible and loud sounds are comfortable. Our Audiologists will then provide hearing aid orientation, demonstrate how to use the hearing aid and explain the care and maintenance needed to keep your hearing aid in working order. A care kit and batteries are included with your hearing aid.
Keep in mind, listening through a hearing aid will, and should, sound very different than what you are used to. The hearing aids are only one tool to provide better access to speech and should never be viewed as a cure for hearing loss. The 5 Keys to Communication Success handbook on successful communication strategies while using hearing aids is included with your hearing aid. This handbook enforces the 5 Keys to Communication Success: speaker, listener, environment, technology, practice and provides practical, easy-to-implement strategies for improved communication around the home, on the phone, dining out, attending public events and in the car.
Communication strategies, aural rehabilitation and hearing loss prevention should all be considered equally important as the hearing aids to provide the best outcomes.
Following your hearing aid fitting, you will begin a 60-day evaluation and adjustment period. If you do not feel you are receiving benefit with your hearing aid, you can try different technology or return the hearing aid during this timeframe. There is a $200 non-refundable fee for the services provided to you through the 60 days if you decide to return the hearing aid altogether.
Our skilled Audiology Assistants will check in with you following your hearing aid fitting and prior to your first recheck appointment. At your recheck appointments, our Audiologists will ensure proper fit, sound quality and that you are receiving benefit from your hearing aids. Hearing aid fine-tuning, maintenance, connections to smartphones, cleaning and other topics may be covered. Speech-in-noise testing will be completed with your hearing aids to ensure you experience improved hearing with your hearing aids.
