A board-certified nurse practitioner, Kevin Clemans, MSN, RN, FNP-BC, with four decades of nursing experience, is well qualified to address the complex needs of patients. Originally from Indiana, Kevin received his early RN training at South Western Michigan College and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Bethel College, both in Indiana. He practiced in civilian and military hospitals, including 10 years with medical units at Wright Patterson and Elmendorf Air Force Bases in Ohio and Alaska respectively, achieving the rank of captain. In 2013, he earned a Master of Science in Family Nurse Practice from Goshen College in Indiana. He has since worked as an intensivist nurse practitioner in the fields of cardiovascular surgery, hospital medicine, and primary care. He has participated in numerous activities supportive of nursing and emergency preparedness, including serving as a flight nurse, Red Cross nurse, and Disaster Medical Assistance Team member. His many honors include receiving the Distinguished Duty Medal and Silver Star.

Jon Solberg, MD
A member of our Emergency/Trauma team, Jon Solberg, MD, FACEP, FAWM, DiMM, is a board-certified emergency physician with expertise in wilderness and mountain medicine. Prior to joining Trinity Health, he served as medical director of emergency medicine and urgent care at CHI St. Alexius Health, Bismarck. Since 2010 he has provided emergency care in civilian and military settings in Louisiana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Texas, and California. During his military service he was deployed to a combat support hospital at Forward Operating Base Dwyer in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. A native of Stanley, Dr. Solberg earned his medical degree from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences, where he currently serves as chair of the Emergency Medicine Department. He completed his emergency medicine residency at Madigan Army Medical Center, Ft. Lewis, WA. Later, he earned a Diploma in Mountain Medicine from the Wilderness Medical Society and University of Utah. His training in mountain and wilderness medicine has equipped him to provide rescue and care for patients in the most austere environments. In 2018 he was medical officer for the Expeditions 7 team which drove the length of Greenland for the first time in human history. He also serves as team physician for AMSOIL SnoCross Championship Series and is the medical editor for Overland Journal, “the world’s premier publication for environmentally responsible, vehicle dependent, expedition travel.” Dr. Solberg is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Academy of Wilderness Medicine.
Lovita Scrimshaw, DO
Dr. Scrimshaw is a board certified emergency physician and a member of our Emergency/Trauma team. She cares for adult and pediatric patients who need immediate attention due to acute illness or injury. A magna cum laude graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, she earned her Doctor of Osteopathy from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, Blacksburg, VA, where she was named “Medical Student of the Year.” She completed her emergency medicine residency at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine, Kalamazoo. During residency, she was appointed Clinical Instructor of Emergency Medicine where she provided teaching for medical students and residents. Having a special interest in laceration repair and wound management, she serves as an author of the Wound Closure chapter in Roberts and Hedges’ Clinical Procedures in Emergency Medicine and Acute Care. Dr. Scrimshaw is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians and Christian Medical & Dental Associations.
Daniel Scrimshaw, DO
Dr. Scrimshaw is a board certified emergency physician and a member of our Emergency/Trauma team. He provides immediate care to adult and pediatric patients with emergent illnesses and injuries. A magna cum laude graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University Honors College, he earned his Doctor of Osteopathy from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, Blacksburg, VA. Wade Talley, MD
As a member of Trinity's team of emergency physicians in the Emergency/Trauma Center, Dr. Talley provides immediate diagnosis and treatment for people with life-threatening illness and injury. A Glenburn native, he earned his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1995 from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences and completed residency training at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. He was active duty in the U.S. Air Force from 1995-2001. Prior to joining Trinity Health Dr. Talley was an associate director and staff physician at the Center for Family Medicine in Minot for 10 years. He is board certified in Family Medicine.
Shawn Thompson, DSc,PA-C
A member of our Emergency/Trauma team, Shawn Thompson, DSc, PA-C, is a doctor of science and board certified physician assistant, specializing in Emergency Medicine. A retired military medical officer, Shawn brings extensive experience to his position, having cared for soldiers in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1993 and worked as a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) specialist for 11 years before attending the Interservice Physician Assistant Program (IPAP) earning both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in PA studies from the University of Nebraska. After graduating he was assigned to the 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Benning, GA. In addition to primary care medicine, Shawn spent 15 months in Iraq responsible for coordinating medical assets at three separate combat outposts and point of injury care during numerous combat operations. Subsequently he was assigned to the U.S. Army Ranger School. He was sole medical officer for the school’s Ft. Benning phase and later, as the senior medical officer, was responsible for coordinating medical care for the thousands of students attending annually at three geographically separate locations. In 2013, Shawn completed his Doctor of Science in Emergency Medicine PA Studies at Baylor University, Ft. Sam Houston. He moved to Ft. Bliss, TX, joining the emergency department at William Beaumont Army Medical Center. While at William Beaumont he spent a period of several months as the Officer in Charge of the 31st Combat Support Hospital’s Level II trauma center in Kabul, Afghanistan. Returning from the war zone he was named assistant professor and program director for the U.S. Army-Baylor University Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant Residency program, a post he held prior to joining Trinity Health. He’s board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and certified in advanced trauma, pediatric, and cardiac life support.
Jeffrey Sather, MD
A lifelong EMS professional, Jeffrey Sather, M.D., is a board certified emergency physician, who serves as medical director of Trinity Health’s Emergency Trauma Center in Minot, ND. He began his career as an EMT/paramedic, earning his medical degree in 1998 from the University of North Dakota and completing his Emergency Medicine residency at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio. Since joining Trinity Health in 2001, Dr. Sather has served in numerous leadership positions, including chair of the Department of Medicine and physician liaison for Trinity’s electronic health record. A strong advocate for rural access to emergency care, he’s been instrumental in implementing statewide initiatives to improve trauma, stroke and STEMI care. He currently co-chairs North Dakota’s stakeholder group for Mission Lifeline, a project that will create a STEMI care network for North Dakota citizens. A diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Sather is a member of the American College of Emergency Room Physicians.
John Nelson, MD
Dr. Nelson is trained to provide general medical care for every member of the family, from infants to seniors. He can make referrals to a specialist when needed while continuing to coordinate an individual’s care. Originally from Galway, Ireland, he received his medical degree from the University of Galway. He fulfilled his internship at Altnagelvin Hospital in Northern Ireland. Dr. Nelson is board certified by the American Board of Family Practice.
Paul Olson, MD
Dr. Paul D. Olson received his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. He is also a 1987 graduate of the University of Iowa College of Medicine located in Iowa City, and he completed his family practice internship and residency with the UND Family Practice Center in Bismarck, ND. He is a full time staff physician at Trinity Health where he specializes in Emergency Medicine at Trinity’s Level II Trauma Center. He is past assistant director of the Minot Center For Family Medicine Northwest Regional Campus, Minot. Dr. Olson is board certified in Family Practice. He is also an instructor in advanced cardiac life support; certified in advanced neonatal life support; certified in advanced trauma life support and basic life support. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice, the American Medical Association and the American College of Emergency Physicians.
Virginia Keaveny, MD
A member of our Emergency/Trauma team, Dr. Keaveny provides immediate care to people with emergent illnesses and injuries, including heart attack and stroke. A Minot native, she graduated from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Grand Forks and completed her residency training in Emergency Medicine at the Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education, Rochester, MN. Throughout her medical school and residency she has received numerous awards for academic excellence. Dr. Keaveny is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians and Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society.
