Trinity Health Outpatient Nutrition Services will offer a grocery store tour for people affected by diabetes Tuesday, March 10, from 6 to 7 p.m. at MarketPlace Foods, 1930 South Broadway.
The free tour is for people with diabetes, their friends and family members, or anyone interested in understanding food labels and making the best food choices to meet the nutritional needs of you or a loved one.
“Shopping for the right foods is critical to managing diabetes,” said Outpatient Dietitian Kayla Cole, RDN, LRD. “In this tour, you’ll learn what foods to look for and how to read and understand the components of a food label, including total carbohydrates, sugar, fiber, and sugar alcohols.”
Space is limited. RSVP is requested by calling 857-5268 by March 9. Participants are instructed to meet at the east entrance of MarketPlace Foods, near the deli.
The American Diabetes Association states that diabetes affects nearly 30 million children and adults in the U.S. or nearly 10% of the population. Another 86 million Americans have pre-diabetes or are at risk for developing Type 2 diabetes.
