Nurses from Trinity Health’s Pediatric Department will hold a Child Car Seat Checkup Saturday, July 13, at Health Center – Medical Arts. The free checks will be from 12:00 noon to 3 p.m. in the parking garage under the clinic’s main parking area. No appointment is necessary.
The nurses, who are certified car passenger safety technicians, will on hand to check whether seats meet federal safety standards, are installed correctly, and are appropriate according to the age, weight and height of children. Technicians also will help mount new seats and make sure parents know how to secure their children properly.
It’s recommended that parents bring their car seats, car seat manuals, vehicle manuals, and the children who will be using the seats.
Safe Kids Worldwide reports that road injuries are the leading cause of preventable deaths and injuries to children in the U.S. and that correct use of child safety seats can reduce the risk of death by as much as 71 percent. In North Dakota, five out of six car seats are used incorrectly, according to the State Health Department.
