Trinity Board Names New President/CEO

(MINOT, ND)—John M. Kutch, a healthcare executive with a diverse background in physician relations and health system management, has been named as the person who will succeed Terry Hoff as President and CEO of Trinity Health.

Board Chairman Patrick Holien says plans for the executive transition are underway. An executive search began last summer after Hoff announced he would retire in June after 38 years with Trinity Health, 22 years as President.

“We knew it would be very difficult to replace someone with Terry’s experience and ability,” Holien said. “We’re extremely pleased to attract someone with John’s record of strong leadership and management. He’s exactly the person we need to lead Trinity Health into the future.”

Mr. Kutch, whose wife, Nicole, hails from Minot, currently serves as President and CEO of Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital in Grand Rapids, MN. He enjoyed a distinguished tenure there, advancing initiatives to improve patient outcomes and strengthen the organization’s finances.

Prior to joining Grand Itasca he was associated six years with Willis-Knighton Health System of Shreveport – Louisiana’s largest multi-hospital health system. Initially he served as Vice President of Revenue Cycle Operations and Management, becoming Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President in 2005. As COO, he was responsible for day-to-day operations to ensure the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective care. Under his stewardship the system earned numerous honors for excellence, including recognition as a Top 100 Hospital in 2005 and a Top 100 Cardiovascular Hospital in 2005 and 2006. Earlier in his career he held CEO positions at Heartland Independent Provider Network, Inc., of Fargo and Mobridge Regional Hospital in South Dakota.

“I am very excited to join Trinity Health,” Kutch said. “I look forward to working with the Board and the excellent staff and physicians to build on what is truly an impressive record of achievement in quality, technology, and healthcare IT.”

Originally from Bemidji, MN, Kutch was graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1993 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Financial Management. In 1996 he earned the degree Master of Health Services Administration from Xavier University, Cincinnati, OH. A member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, he and his wife have two children.

Founded in 1922, Trinity Health is a nonprofit, integrated healthcare system with three hospitals, two nursing homes, a network of regional clinics and Trinity Medical Group, a network of more than 150 doctors and other providers. With a staff of more than 2,700 employees, Trinity is the region’s largest employer. Trinity Health has been committed to integrating the latest technologies across its system, deploying North Dakota’s first fully integrated electronic health record and an automated system for hospital medication delivery. In 2008 Trinity Health was recognized among the 25 “Most Wired” hospital systems in the small and rural category.
