Trinity Health has announced it is forming a Healthcare Explorer Post for junior and senior students interested in a variety of health careers. A kickoff event is set for Monday, September 30, at 7 p.m. in the 6th floor Skyline Room of Health Center — East, 20 Burdick Expressway West.
Exploring is a career education program of Learning for Life, an organization that partners with schools and community based organizations to prepare youth to achieve their full potential as they make their way in the world. Explorer posts offer young people the chance to experience vocational training and learn about careers in a particular field, such as healthcare.
Trinity's Healthcare Explorer Post will meet monthly and feature a variety of hands-on activities and dialogue with professionals from various medical fields, including Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Ear, Nose and Throat Medicine, Sports Medicine, Radiology, Audiology, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Infection Control and Nursing.
Membership applications will be available at the Monday event for students in grades 11 and 12. Cost is
$25 per student. Completed applications and orientation are required to participate in any of the observation and job shadowing experiences. A parent or guardian must attend the first event. If you are unable to attend but would like to participate, call Kevin Mehrer, District Executive for the Northern Lights Council, Boy Scouts of America, at 839-2260, or Trinity's Community Education Department at 857-5099.
