The meeting is free and open to the public. A complementary meal will be provided.
Presented at the session will be concepts of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and how knowledge of these services can empower patients and families to improve quality of life as they confront a serious or life-limiting illness.
Kevin J. Whitford, M.D., Internist and Palliative Medicine Specialist, Mayo Clinic, will discuss the basics of Hospice, which provides specialized end-of-life care for patients whose illness or condition is unlikely to be cured. He’ll also examine the phenomenon of anticipatory grief, the feelings people experience when they are expecting the death of a loved one.
Ann M. Hoff, a Physician in Palliative Medicine at Trinity Health, will discuss Palliative Medicine, a new service at Trinity Health, which involves specialized medical care for people with a serious or life-limiting illness. Her talk will focus on the distinctions between Palliative Medicine and Hospice Care and the common myths surrounding this form of medicine. Also featured will be a panel discussion by family members who have utilized Hospice services for a loved one.
The event is sponsored by Trinity Health Foundation and the Ruth Bodien Family Endowment. Registration may be completed by logging on to the Trinity Health Foundation website, foundation.trinityhealth.org. For more information, call Trinity’s Community Education Department at 857-5099.
