(MINOT, ND)— Trinity Health pediatricians are offering sports physicals by appointment.
The North Dakota High School Activities Association requires athletes to have a pre-participation physical exam every year. Participation in a school sport this fall requires that a student athlete receive a physical dated after April 16.
Pediatrician Melissa Messerly, MD, says sports physicals provide an opportunity to receive a preventive-care exam and discuss concerns with a physician.
“The best sports physical is one performed by the student’s own doctor or pediatrician,” Dr. Messerly said. “The student’s regular provider has a better chance of catching something that could be overlooked by someone who doesn’t know them as well.”
Each sports physical includes a thorough physical exam, an immunization update, medication review and renewals, and completion of any sports paperwork. The office visit also provides an opportunity to discuss other concerns, such as acne, BMI, or risk factors associated with diabetes.
Appointments are available by calling 857-5413 during normal business hours. Athletes may request their own pediatrician or be assigned to a doctor if they don’t already have one. SPACE index.php
