(MINOT, ND)— It took nearly all of New Year’s Day, but Trinity Hospital finally recorded its first birth of 2016. On January 1st at 7:46 p.m., Robert and Genevieve Saulter of Minot gave birth to a healthy boy weighing 7 lbs., 13 oz., and measuring 20 inches.

“This is the best way we can imagine to start the year,” said Genevieve, a 4th grade teacher at Sunnyside elementary. “It was our one and only New Year’s resolution.”
The New Year’s title came as a surprise to all. “He was due on the 27th, and we actually called in on the 31st to induce,” Genevieve noted. Robert laughed, “We tried to get in on the 31st for the tax credit.”
In keeping with the baby’s late arrival, the parents are taking their time choosing a name. They’ve got it whittled down to three family names, of which two will survive as a first and middle name.
Robert, a lawyer who recently became a captain in the U.S. Air Force, said his father is especially pleased that their first child is a boy. “I’m the last male heir with the Saulter name, so now we’ll have a son to carry it on.”
Although the couple moved to Minot from Austin, TX, and Genevieve traveled to numerous places during her pregnancy, including San Francisco, Wyoming, Miami, Seattle, Denver, and even Iceland – their son is a native Minoter, something the Saulters say is fine with them.
“We couldn’t be happier with our care,” Genevieve said. “Dr. Heather Bedell and all of the Trinity staff have been great.” The Trinity Health Auxiliary presented the family with a gift basket of items useful to a newborn.
