(MINOT, ND)— Trinity Hospice is seeking caring people who would like to become hospice volunteers.

Volunteers provide much-needed services in an end-of-life care setting, performing such tasks as patient visits and respite care for family caregivers.

“Volunteers are the cornerstone of hospice,” said Trinity Hospital Social Worker La Donna Schreiber, MSW. “They’re a warm and caring presence for patients and families.”

Volunteers may read to patients, reminisce about their lives, play cards, help with letter writing, or simply call a family member whose loved one has died to provide emotional support.

“The experience can be as rewarding to volunteers as it is to patients,” Schreiber added.

Hospice volunteers do not perform personal cares such as feeding or administering medication, and staff tries to match volunteers with patients according to the volunteer’s comfort level. No experience is necessary. Training is provided.

People who are interested may call La Donna at 701-857-5082. SPACE index.php
