(MINOT, ND)— Trinity Health will offer a free program on heart health Monday, February 20, at 7 p.m. in the Trinity Health Community Conference Room at Town & Country Center. Attendees are asked to enter via Door 5. Refreshments will be provided.

Jerilyn Alexander, RN, STEMI Coordinator for Trinity Health, will present “Your Heart Is On the Line,” a look at the various risk factors and prevention strategies associated with the most common form of heart attack, ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI), which is caused by a sudden blockage of a coronary artery.

Alexander will also give an overview of programs Trinity Health has in place to respond quickly and effectively in cases of a suspected heart attack. These include protocols for identifying STEMI heart attacks in the field and streamlining processes to shorten the “door-to-balloon” time – the interval between a patient arriving at the hospital until the artery is reopened through coronary intervention via balloon angioplasty.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in North Dakota and the United States. It is largely preventable, however, by adopting healthier lifestyles and behaviors. Reservations are not required but requested by calling Trinity Health’s Community Education Department at 857-5099. SPACE index.php
